The Dental Postgraduate Section supports postgraduate education and training for the whole dental workforce (Dentists and Dental Care Professionals) in Wales.  This includes dental foundation and dental specialty training for dentists and continuing professional development (CPD) for dentists and DCPs.  These activities are underpinned by appropriate educational research and quality assurance to ensure that they are of a high standard to meet the needs of dental professionals in support of their care for their patients.

DCP Courses

Dental Care Professionals

As the new academic year is fast approaching, have you considered your professional development requirements?  The Wales Deanery provides a variety of courses for the Dental Team in venues across Wales.

Study days can vary from 1 day on specific topics to longer courses to gain additional qualifications. 

All courses have verifiable CPD hours.


Welsh Dental Therapist Foundation Training Programme

** Applications are invited from General Dental Practitioners based in Wales, with at least four year's experience, to become a Trainer on the Dental Therapist Foundation Training Programme (formally known as the ITP Programme)  **

  • Trainers are required to employ a Therapist in general practice for 2 days per week, during a 12 month programme.
  • Trainers will receive a trainer grant currently £2,000 per annum
  • Trainers will receive reimbursement of 50% of the Therapist salary currently £5,208.20
  • Trainers are required to give 1 tutorial per month and supervise daily practice
  • All fees NHS/Private accrue to the practice
  • Existing DFT or ITP Trainers approved within the last 3 years have automatic approval for this programme

Start Date of Programme: 7th September 2015
