The strategic aim of the Wales Deanery is to commission, quality assure and support the education and training of trainees, hospital doctors, GPs, dentists and DCPs in Wales.
This includes the development of innovative models of education and training delivery, building training capacity and leading on postgraduate medical and educational research.
The Welsh Institute of Minimal Access Therapy (WIMAT), based at The Wales Deanery, Cardiff University provides a wide range of postgraduate education and training for junior doctors through to consultants including basic, intermediate and advanced courses in a range of medical and surgical specialties.
The Institute is an all-Wales facility, with courses being provided in conjunction with the postgraduate centres and clinical skills laboratories across the principality and throughout the rest of the UK.
Professor Derek Gallen, Postgraduate Dean, The Wales Deanery said: "We are delighted to have achieved this accreditation from the Royal College of Surgeons, and to be the first Surgical Education Centre in the UK to achieve this recognition, and for Wales to be leading the way, makes the achievement even more special.
