Undergraduate Certificate of Higher Education in Dental Nursing
The undergraduate programme in Dental Nurse Training is unique in Wales. The course aims to provide students with a practical and intellectual knowledge of dental nursing to allow them to practise competently as a dental nurse in a wide range of clinical areas and to promote team working in the dental profession.
The programme allows students to gain both an academic award and a professional registration as a dental nurse.
- General Dental Council (GDC) approved part time programme, awaiting sufficiency for one year programme.
- Cardiff University.
The CertHE in Dental Nursing is a one year full-time programme.
It is anticipated that there will be two centres, one at the Dental Teaching Unit in Porth (Rhondda Cynon Taf), the other at Morriston Postgraduate Centre. All study days are compulsory.
The course will be delivered by tutors from Postgraduate Dental Education of the Wales Deanery.
Minimum entry requirements are 5 GCSEs (including English/Welsh language, Mathematics, Science or Biology and two other) grade C or above. In addition, the following would be desirable:
- 1 AS Level (Science subject) OR Access to Higher Education: Science or Healthcare Studies
- Other qualification equivalent to the above
Pre course interviews for all candidates will take place between May and June 2012

All offers are subject to satisfactory CRB checks, Occupational Health Screening and a satisfactory interview.
The next programme commences in September 2012.
Students are allocated a practice placement for two days per week for the duration of the programme. This is in addition to their contact study days.
