The iDoc Project

The All-Wales Foundation Programme iDoc Project is an exciting  initiative from the Wales Deanery that has provided trainee doctors (between Oct 2009 and March 2011) with a Smartphone device and a micro SD card and software application containing 17 medical textbooks, enabling access to accurate medical information such as the BNF, Netter’s Atlas of Human Anatomy and the Oxford Handbook of the Foundation Year.  All of these books can be rapidly searched using an electronic search tool that is integrated with the Medhand application on the SD card.  Evaluation of this initiative is still ongoing and participants in the project are  expected to provide formal feedback in the form of  questionnaires and case reports. These will enable us to demonstrate the usefulness of this device and to guide further improvement in both information delivery and just-in-time learning. Preliminary findings from the iDoc project have been presented at the eLearning in Health conference (Aston, June 2011)  and the Association for the Study of Medical Education Annual Scientific Meeting ( Edinburgh, July 2011).

Please note, recruitment to the iDoc project has closed as devices were all allocated in March 2011. There is a possibility that a small number of  iDoc will become available as individuals exit the project. If you would like to be placed on the waiting list for an iDoc device and SD card please e-mail iDoc Project.

The full Terms and Conditions, as well as Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) documents for the iDoc Project Phases 2 (enrants since December 2010), are available in the resources section of this page, as is a link to the Training Videos, which demonstrate how to set up and use your Smartphone and the Dr Companion software. Training is provided via the video links on this page.
