As well as core and specialty training, the Wales Deanery provides undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing professional development courses in a number of different medical and dental fields.
These courses work to the same values of innovation, excellence and a focus on patient-centred care and safety, as well as core and specialty programmes.
The Medical Education courses are committed to providing excellence in clinical teaching, education and supervision for health professionals. Find out more about our courses:
The Wales Deanery Dental Specialty
The Wales Deanery Dental Specialty provides an Undergraduate Certificate of Higher Education in Dental Nursing which is a unique training opportunity for student dental nurses in Wales. The course aims to provide students with a practical and intellectual knowledge of dental nursing to allow them to practise competently as a dental nurse in a wide range of clinical areas and to promote team working in the dental profession.
WIMAT (The Welsh Institute for Minimal Access Therapy)
WIMAT was opened in 1994. It runs multi-disciplinary training courses across a range of surgical and medical specialties. WIMAT's in-house facilities include an up-to-date surgical skills training lab comprising 10 fully equipped training stations with simulation models and the training team also use live links to local operating theatres for master classes.
Revalidation Support Unit
The Wales Deanery Revalidation Support Unit (RSU) directly trains all GP appraisers. Based on the current GP appraiser training programme and the experience of delivering this, RSU has developed Medical Online Appraiser Training (MOAT) as an alternative model of appraiser training for other appraisers.
The Wales Deanery also provides access to CPD training modules on the GP CPD website.
