RCOG Basic Practical Skills

Approved by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.

This intensive ‘hands on’ three-day course consists of practical demonstrations, discussions and assessments, allowing delegates the opportunity to practice the skills needed for an SHO in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The course meets the mandatory requirements specified in module 4 of the core logbook for training.

  • Theatre etiquette
  • Knot tying
  • Principles of gynaecological examination
  • Management of  normal delivery
  • Fetal blood sampling
  • Surgical documentation and risk management
  • Basic laparoscopy and hysteroscopy
  • Principles of electrosurgery

The tutors were very well prepared on their topics/stations, tutors were also very encouraging and helpful with questions

My next F2 rotation in O and G and the contents of this course will obviously be very useful. Also since I am interested in applying for ST training in O and G this course is very helpful

Very relevant, opportunity to handle equipment and gain experience which can be a difficult job
