External Inspections of the Foundation Programme and Specialty Training Programmes are undertaken by the General Medical Council (GMC).

GMC Quality Assurance Visit 2011/2012

General Medical Council (GMC) Visit to Wales DeaneryThe GMC conducted a Quality Assurance Visit to the Wales Deanery in November 2011 to consider the extent to which the Deanery was meeting the GMC's Standards for Training.

In addition to scrutinising the Deanery's processes, the panel also visited Foundation, Paediatrics, Core Surgical and Core Psychiatry Training at both Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board and Cardiff and Vale University Health Board as well as meeting with trainess and trainers from the Caswell Clinic in Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board.  The visit team also followed up on training programmes in Neurosurgery and Obstetrics and Gynaecology which were investigated during the 2009 PMETB (now GMC) Cross Specialty Visit.

2009 PMETB (now GMC) Cross Specialty Visit

The 2009 PMETB Visit to the Wales Deanery took place between 14th and 16th July 2009 and was based upon the outcomes of the PMETB trainee surveys, the exception report submitted to PMETB annually by the Deanery in relation to the quality of training within the Principality and other sources of evidence available to PMETB via its Concordat membership.

The Visit Team met with representatives from Neurosurgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Ophthalmology at Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board and Cardiff and Vale University Health Board as well as meeting with representatives from the Deanery.

The Visit focused upon three key areas:

  • The Deanery's quality management framework.
  • The relationship that the Deanery has with local education/training providers.
  • The Deanery's relationship with College/Faculties to deliver training and support to our trainees

2007 PMETB (now GMC) Cross Specialty Visit

The first GMC (formerly PMETB) Cross Specialty Visit to the Wales Deanery was undertaken between 29th May and 1st June 2007. The PMETB Visit Team met with representatives from General Practice, Haematology, Histopathology and Diabetes and Endocrinology at Cardiff & Vale University Health Board, Cwm Taf Health Board.
