Goals & Achievements is offering 1 day training courses on:

  • Leadership Skills for Doctors
  • Team Working for Doctors

Goals and Achievements has been delivering Leadership Skills and Team Working management courses for the Wales Deanery since 2008 as part of the Generic Curriculum programme. In that period, it has trained over 1,000 doctors in Leadership and Team Working.

It is now offering Higher Specialist Trainees and SAS doctors the opportunity to participate in open courses in Wales on Leadership Skills and Team Working.

The training using audio and/or video and written materials for pre-course foundation work, and in-person training to practice and obtain feedback and growth in a safe environment.  There are also opportunities for post course support via 2 telephone mentoring sessions per delegate.  The training day will be structured around small learners groups with a maximum of 10 delegates.

AIMS

  • To prepare trainees for leadership roles, drawing heavily on the Medical Leadership Framework and current challenges facing the NHS

OUTCOMES

The learner will be able to;

  • Understand the difference between managing and leading in the NHS
  • Know what it takes to succeed as a leader in the NHS
  • Appreciate and know when to apply different leadership styles
  • Better understand own personal strengths and how to put these to work
  • Know how to set direction and contribute to the long term strategy of your specialty
  • Understand how to tackle service improvement and change in the NHS
  • Know how to get the buy-in and support of others

 

 

TEAM WORKING

AIMS

  • To provide trainees with the skills and understanding required to deliver results within complex organisations such as the NHS, whilst depending upon teams of people able to work successfully together within and across NHS organisations.

OUTCOMES

The learner will be able to;

  • Understand the core foundations for creating effective teamwork
  • Understand the characteristics of effective teams
  • Understand and be able to address some of the common barriers to effective team working
  • Have specific strategies for dealing with poorly performing teams and team members
  • Be able to better handle difficult people
  • Be able to better handle difficult situations
  • Be ready to improve team working

 

 

ABOUT THE TRAINERS

Goals & Achievements is a past deliverer of leadership skills and team working management training via the Generic Curriculum and has trained over 1,000 higher specialist trainees and SAS doctors. From feedback of past delegates of the training, over 90% of delegates would recommend the courses. The course leader has direct NHS experience up to and including Board level.
