Student ID Cards

Arrangements for students to obtain ID cards for access to University resources including libraries and online provision, is as follows:

'Face to face' programmes:

New students who attend taught sessions as part of their programme (i.e. MSc & Pg Diploma in Medical Education ‘face to face’) will be able to have a full University Student ID card produced as part of the induction arrangements which take place as part of the first module, which begins in September 2012. Details of the venue for ID card production will be given on the programme sent out by the course co-ordinator.

All students of Cardiff University are required to carry a student card on-site. The card has a number of important functions:

  • proof of identity
  • library card
  • proximity card (gain entry to various University buildings)
  • proof of National Union of Students (NUS) membership

Before a student card will be issued, students must:

  • be on the PAC (ID card) system
  • complete the online enrolment task
  • provide proof of identity at collection

Outside of these arrangements, a student may collect a student card from the Security Centre, Park Place.

Distance/e-learning programmes:

New students undertaking their studies on a distance or e-learning programme (i.e. Pg Diploma in Dental Studies; Pg Certificate/Pg Diploma/MSc in Medical Education via e-learning) will not require a student ID card unless they anticipate using the University’s campus facilities.

Students on distance or e-learning programmes are able to access online resources using their usernames and passwords. Students wishing to use other Distance Learning Services, e.g. Inter Library Loans Service, will need to obtain a library number.

Further information on the library’s Distance Learning Services can be found here: http://www.cardiff.ac.uk/insrv/libraries/distance

Returning Students:

If a returning student requires a replacement Cardiff University Student Card, they will need to go to the Security Centre, Park Place. There is a £10 charge for a replacement of lost card.
