The Wales Deanery provides all training grade doctors with a Cardiff University network account.
This entitles you to use the wide range of services provided by Cardiff University in particular CardiffMail (the University e-Mail system), electronic resources including eBooks, eJournals and databases e.g. MEDLINE, and software applications.
If you are a Cardiff University graduate, you will keep the username and email address you used as a student. If you are not a Cardiff University graduate, you will be sent a letter containing your registration details i.e. username, password and email address.
For further information about your account and how to change passwords click here.
If you have access to the internet go to: http://portal.cardiff.ac.uk
This portal provides you with a personalised web interface to Cardiff University email and e-resources. Once logged on you will not have to login to individual resources again (except the Citrix service).
For an additional route to Cardiffmail go to: http://cardiffmail.cf.ac.uk
CardiffMail has two modes - full (suitable for use at home) and lite (suitable for use on NHS Health Board networks). When connected, login using your Cardiff
username and password. When logged in, help is available from Help menu. Additional help, FAQs and online guides can be found at:
http://mwehelp.cf.ac.uk/cardiffmail
Use your Cardiff University login (username and password) to access the University's electronic resources off-campus via the Cardiff Portal http://portal.cf.ac.uk
The All Wales Citrix service is Cardiff University’s supported system for lightweight remote desktop connection through your Internet browser. This allows you to connect to the Cardiff University computer network as if you were logging in via a directly connected computer, giving access to desktop applications including: Office (Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Word), SPSS (Statistical package), EndNote (Bibliography package), Paint Shop Pro (Graphical package) and electronic resources.
The All Wales Citrix service is accessed remotely depending on your location:
• all NHS Wales hospital libraries have dedicated WYSE terminals that connect directly to this service and are available for use
• if you are logged in to your local NHS Health Board account (ie. inside your local NHS Health Board firewall), connect to Citrix using the web address: https://clink.cf.ac.uk. NB Your local computing network administrator will need to register your PC for this to work.
Once connected, login using your Cardiff username and password. You will then see a lightweight desktop with limited applications available for you to use, including Internet Explorer. Running Internet Explorer via the All Wales Citrix server will allow access to most e-resources, without having to log in again.
If you are based in Cardiff and Vale University LHB on the UHW and Llandough sites or in Velindre NHS Health Board at Velindre, you will be able to use PCs directly connected to the Cardiff University network to access any of the services outlined. These are located in the following libraries: Health Library, UHW; Archie Cochrane Library, Llandough; and Cancer Research Wales Library, Velindre.
