Workshop F1 - Making Career Decisions

This set of materials is designed for a one-hour teaching session aimed at encouraging Foundation doctors, during their final Year 1 rotation, to begin critically evaluating their career plans for after F2, and developing contingency plans if first choices for specialty recruitment do not go to plan. In the "Roads to Success" career model, decision-making is the third key step in career planning, after self-assessment and exploration.

Additional or alternative activities include:

• Inviting representatives from specialties to attend for a Q&A session
• Session on F2 Tasters – what they are, how to organise, how to use them usefully/reflectively to inform career choice
• Showing CV/portfolio station except from AGCAS Specialty training Applications DVD (i.e. a taste of things to come) – discuss why it is important to make everything about your portfolio and CV reflect a clear career decision which you can qualify at an interview.
