GMC standards, from 2011, require all Educational Supervisors to demonstrate the skills required to provide career support and manage discussions with trainees.
The Deanery can run two-hour workshop entitled “Supporting Doctors with their Careers” which can be a standalone event or part of a broader Educational Supervisors Induction/development programme. Supporting Doctors With Their Careers [31.0 Kb]In addition, the Deanery E-learning portal, PLATO, hosts a Careers e-learning module as part of the suite of sessions within the Tools for Trainers programme. A certificate is provided on completion.
Kent, Surrey and Sussex (KSS) Deanery and the Institute of Postgraduate Medicine of Brighton and Sussex Medical School run a Postgraduate Certificate/Diploma in Managing Medical Careers commencing each January. It comprises short study blocks and virtual learning.
The Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services (AGCAS) run a range of training and skills development events in different aspects of careers guidance for graduates and postgraduates. Members can also join a national link to the Medical Careers Advisers Network (MCAN).
