Research Swansea University

Research at the School of Medicine Swansea is carried out within the Institute of Life Science (ILS). There are two major thematic groups, Biomedical Science, BioMed, and CHIRAL, the Centre for Health Information, Research and Evaluation. The first-phase ILS building provides a 5000sqm research facility, principally allocated to biomedical laboratories and incubator space for companies. ILS Phase 2 will be delivered by the second quarter of 2011 and provide facilities for CHIRAL including a Clinical Research and Trials Centre, Imaging facility, the Centre for Nanohealth (applying Nanotechnology to Health), an Innovation Centre to manage and exploit intellectual property and Incubation Centre for spin-in and spin-out companies for the development of medically valuable products.

A broad range of sub-specialist services within the Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board provide the context for a range of opportunities for research training fully supported by the high quality research facilities and resources of the School of Medicine.
