Cardiff and Vale University Health Board provides day-to-day health care services to a population of around 500,000 people living in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. Patients also attend from across Wales for a range of specialist services, for which the health board is regarded as a centre of excellence, including paediatric services. There are strong links with the Wales College of Medicine, Cardiff University which places the health board at the leading edge of education and training of health care professionals, as well as research.
Cardiff itself is a city of contrasts. The city centre has top class entertainment and excellent shopping facilities, but is only a few minutes walk away form acres of parkland. There is also the Cardiff Bay development, just a mile from the city centre which offers a range of bars, restaurants and apartments.
Most paediatric training in Cardiff takes places in the University Hospital of Wales.
