Interviews

Please note variations exist between grades and specialties.

Your interview will last for a minimum of 30 minutes. The structure of the interview will vary depending upon the grade and may comprise of 3, 4 or 5 rooms. Each room will assess different skills or competences. For example you may be required to give a presentation or respond to a clinical scenario. The interview panel will have access to your application form, however they will not have access to the equal opportunities section.

The interview panel's aim is to find out whether you meet the requirements of the person specification for the post and to make sure that only the best candidates are selected for this highly competitive process.

The interview panel will comprise a mix of individuals, examples include:

  • Chair or Lay representative
  • Royal College adviser or nominated deputy
  • Training programme director or chair of the specialty training committee
  • Consultant representation from the training programme
  • A senior management representative
  • Representation from human resources and or the Deanery

A score sheet will be completed for each candidate and the total score given by all panel members will be the final score of the interview.

 

What to bring with you

The Deanery will provide you with details as to what to bring however as a minimum you will be required to bring the following:

  • Original proof of identify (passport or other photo-ID)
  • Evidence of immigration status (e.g. stamped passport)
  • Original and photocopy of your GMC certificate plus evidence that you hold a licence to practice
  • Original and photocopies of all of your qualifications listed on your application form
  • Evidence of competences cited on your application form
  • Evidence of educationally approved posts cited on your application form
  • Portfolio containing evidence such as trainers requires, logbook of clinical activity, audits, workplace assessments (i.e. mini-PAT, Mini-CEX, CbD, DOPS etc)
  • References - you should bring 2 completed references to the interview. If not available they should be provided as soon as possible following the interview. All offers will be subject to satisfactory references being submitted.
