Quality Unit

Quality Management

The Deanery has adopted a risk-based approach to quality management which enables us to address areas of concern in a proportionate manner. The Quality Management Framework is comprised of three inter-related elements of evidence, surveys and visits and is, in turn, underpinned by the Deanery's Quality Committee. These elements enable us to monitor and report on the quality of postgraduate medical education and training across Wales.

Scheme Review Visits

As part of the Wales Deanery Quality Management monitoring, GP Training Wales commissions its own GP Specialty Scheme Review visits across all GP Training Schemes every 2 years.

LHB Commissioning Visits

Local Health Board (LHB) Commissioning Visits are an annual routine quality control process undertaken to consider whether the GMC's Generic Standards for Training, and standards detailed in the Wales Deanery's Service Level Agreement with each of the Health Boards, are being met. GP Training Wales feed into this process by contributing relevant results from the latest End of Placement Evaluation Forms to feed into the visits.

End of Placement Evaluation Feedback

The GP Training Wales’ quality management system involves the triangulation of evidence from trainees, trainers and those responsible for the management of training. An essential component of our GP Specialty Training quality assurance framework is to ensure that there are adequate feedback mechanisms for the collection of information from those who have first hand experience of our training programmes.
