Neath Port Talbot GPST Information

The Neath Port Talbot training scheme was established in 2004. Our hospital posts are based in Singleton and Morriston hospitals, Neath Port Talbot and we have a paediatric post in Carmarthen.

We are a relatively young scheme, growing and progressing steadily. Our scheme’s trainers have a wealth of experience, and we have forged good working relationships with our consultant colleagues in our affiliated hospital posts. Our half day release is held at the Postgraduate Centre, Neath Port Talbot Hospital during academic term times. The hospital is conveniently located along the M4 corridor, just under 45 minutes from Cardiff.

Our half day release provides a peer supportive environment, where trainees feel comfortable and forge lasting working relationships and friendships. As a relatively small scheme, our half day release offers a very personal atmosphere leading to learning in a relaxed setting.

Trainees regularly perform presentations relevant to the GP curriculum. We utilize a combination of medical and non medical speakers, and a range of teaching methods from small group work to formal lecture style sessions. The half day release endeavours to meet the challenges in conjunction with our scheme trainers in order to provide a thorough, balanced learning experience.

Although Neath is a new scheme some of the training practices have been involved in Specialty Training for over 20 years and have a great deal of experience. All the training practices have great commitment to Specialty Training and enthusiasm. Listed to the right are the Neath Specialty Training Scheme training practices.
