Every year a number of babies delivered in Wales die as a result of errors attributable to the incorrect interpretation of electronic fetal monitoring (CTGs). Others survive with severe impairment but may have a normal projected lifespan. The effect on the harmed child is obvious but bringing up such a child has a major effect on the parents as well as brothers and sisters. Most families adapt and take the disaster in their stride and value the child as much as those who are unharmed.
