Dental Foundation Training is the first phase of continuing postgraduate education after graduation and is recognised as a part of career pathways in all sections of the dental profession. Progressive changes are in place to integrate these programmes into formal dental foundation programmes.
The Dental Postgraduate Section currently has the following options for Foundation Training in Wales:
Dental Foundation Year 1 (DF1) - This equates to one year of vocational training working in GDS/PDS in an approved training practice.
Dental Foundation Year 2 (DF2) - This builds upon the first year of Foundation Training with available posts in Hospital NHS Trusts, the Comminity Dental Service and Dental Public Health for one year.
2 Year Longitudinal Foundation Training (DF1 & DF2)- The Longitudinal scheme is a two year Foundation Training Scheme enabling the graduate to complete Dental Foundation Year 1 and Year 2 simultaneiously. Within the two years the trainee will rotate weekly between a general dental practice environment and a hospital environment with one day a week allocated to educational study.
Further information regarding each scheme is available on this site.
