26 doctors who have registered with the WARD group since 2001 we no longer have contact with.
The WARD programme has been successful in securing funding to support asylum seeking and refugee doctors with childcare grants to enable them to attend the re-validation programme. All refugee/asylum seeker doctors should attend a minimum programme of training however members with pre-school children are disadvantaged in that they cannot attend classes due to lack of child care. As majority of the group members collect state benefit, they have no means of funding childcare so that they could attend classes.
The funding benefits WARD members as they are able to attend courses and lectures and thus accelerate the process of re-validation and work towards re-building their lives. Furthermore this funding contributes to aid integration of WARD members by being able to contribute to the society through achieving their educational goals, working and ultimately adding to the medical workforce in the NHS in Wales.
