Refugee Doctors
The Wales Deanery has for many years worked on behalf of refugee doctors, who have fled persecution in their own countries to seek asylum in the UK, and who now wish to rebuild their careers here.
It is extremely difficult to integrate into the UK medical system. The process is frustrating and may feel unattainable due to financial constrains and other practical obstacles. Refugee doctors are often forced to rely on social security benefits instead of contributing their skills and knowledge to the NHS.
In response, the Wales Deanery has established the Wales Asylum Seeking and Refugee Doctors Group (WARD) in order to address the education and training needs of refugee/asylum seeker doctors in Wales and to help meet the standards required to enter the labour market.
