Following the departure of our Associate Dean for E&D on the 1 June 2011, the Deanery’s Equality and Diversity strategy has been reviewed and redrafted and circulated to the senior team for consultation. It was recognised that there was a need to refocus the E&D strategy in the light of recent legislative changes outlined in the Equality Act 2010.
The significant change within the Strategy is the inclusion of Equality Impact Assessments (EIAs). The Deanery has a legal requirement in Wales to undertake EIAs in order to assure the removal of any forms of direct/indirect discrimination and institutional racism. A list of all Deanery policies, procedures, proposed changes, processes, and guidelines, presented to Management Executive in September 2011 to prioritise these for EIAs. All EIAs will then need to be approved through the relevant Deanery committee and signed off by our Management Executive and will then be published on our website.
An E&D Training strategy was developed to ensure that appropriate levels of skills and awareness of E&D legislation and University policy for staff within the Deanery. The majority of Postgraduate Board and Operational Leads have now attended the Equality and Diversity and EIA training sessions held in June 2011. A training video of this session will be made available as a resource to staff in the Deanery shortly.
A copy of the draft E&D strategy has been circulated to internal staff for comments and feedback will been incorporated into the revised strategy prior to final sign off by management Executive in September 2011.
These web pages contain information about the Deanery’s work to promote Equality and Diversity as well as links to a wide range of support, services, training materials and information resources.
