The Deanery is responsible for all doctors in training in Wales and for any issues that may arise and prevent progression throughout the training process. To ensure the quality management of postgraduate medical education the Deanery has developed systems to respond as quickly as possible to any concerns raised.
The Professional Support Unit supports all doctors in training whose performance has been affected and provides advice, guidance and information regarding concerns to all parties involved in the management of postgraduate medical training.
The Professional Support Unit is pleased to be contacted for advice and guidance regarding any issues affecting progression through training. This includes liaising with employers and agencies about reasonable adjustments to support disabled trainees.
Educational Supervisors and employers must keep the Deanery informed of all significant concerns about trainees. The Postgraduate Dean must be informed in writing of any disciplinary actions against a trainee.
Trainees involved in a disciplinary investigation should not rotate to the next placement until disciplinary procedure has concluded.
Trainees may be implicated in repeated episodes which taken individually would be insufficient to cause concern however, considered as a whole may indicate significant issue. For this reason it is preferable that the Performance Unit is informed of any issues regarding a trainee even if no further action is taken.
