Career Planning Resources

image-115263-webDoctors now make key choices about long term direction or specialty route earlier in their career pathway, so knowing how to explore and evaluate your options is important, both now and later in your career.

This site is here to help Foundation, Specialty Training and Specialty Doctors. Also Educational Supervisors and other local career helpers who provide guidance and support. These pages will help you take control of your personal and professional development pathway. You will find information and resources to help you explore career options and opportunities, and to find further support. As a first step, view our online DVD, Medical Training and Careers in Wales, available from the Related Links area on this page. image-115070-webThe sections follow four key stages of career planning and decision-making, a model outlined in the medcical careers book "The Road to Success":

  1. Self assessment (Taking a history)
  2. Career Exploration (Examination)
  3. Decision making (Diagnosis)
  4. Plan implementation (Treatment plan)

The “Who Can Help Me?” section outlines where to find more career support through local, Deanery and external contacts.

The NHS Medical Careers website is a national resource for those contemplating or pursuing a medical career and we strongly recommend that you visit this too.
