Equality and Diversity

The Purpose

The Wales Deanery is committed to supporting, developing and promoting equality and diversity in all of its practices and activities and aims to establish an inclusive culture, free from discrimination and based on the values of dignity and respect.

Our E&D Aims

To achieve this, the Wales Deanery must:

  1. show strong and unambiguous leadership promoting the principles of equality and diversity.
  2. ensure that equality, diversity and opportunity is embedded throughout the organisation through the current infrastructure that supports E&D and eliminates discrimination (on the grounds of age, disability, gender, race, religion or belief and sexual orientation, gender reassignment, marriage & civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity) against any member of staff, faculty, trainees or students.
  3. ensure the development of appropriate skills and awareness in all staff, trainees and students.
  4. ensure that it is fully compliant with employment law, the Equality Act 2010, the Human Rights Act and other relevant legislation that may be enacted and amended in the future, GMC/GDC standards and University policy, to avoid unfair discrimination against students, staff, trainees or trainers.

Development of the Strategy

Following the departure of our Associate Dean for E&D on the 1 June 2011, the Deanery’s Equality and Diversity strategy has been reviewed and redrafted and circulated to the senior team for consultation.  It was recognised that there was a need to refocus the E&D strategy in the light of recent legislative changes outlined in the Equality Act 2010.
